Govindia Hemphill provides textile design, direction, sourcing and procurement for architects, interior designers and private clients. Collaborating with a wide and loyal client base, Sharmil and Sally's reputation has been built on not only their extensive experience, but their visionary design concepts, ability to source individual textiles combined with their talent for colour, texture and a keen awareness of spatial design.
The studio offers a comprehensive textile design and consultancy service, incorporating all aspects of textiles, rugs, carpets, bespoke print & weave design, colour palettes, custom dyeing, sourcing & procurement, cashmere, leatherwork, and decoration as well as upholstery, curtain design and blinds.

Both Sharmil & Sally grew up with constant fascination with pattern, texture, and need to create, essentially working with fabric. About Us

Sharmil Govindia is a graduate of Central St Martins School of Art in weave design and is a guest lecturer for The Royal College of Art, MA Textiles. Sharmil worked in fashion for Saint Laurent, Martine Sitbon & Tom Ford among others, he has worked as textile designer to The Royal Opera House, English National Opera and the National Theatre in London. Sharmil has been a founding partner in Govindia Hemphill since 1999.
Sally Hemphill is a graduate of Central St Martins School of Art in print design and former textile designer for John Galliano, Jasper Conran, Paul Smith, Versace and Martine Sitbon among others. Sally was a visiting textile lecturer at Chelsea College of Art and The Scottish College of Textiles, she has been textile artist in residence at The Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and The Staatsoper Stuttgart. Sally has been a founding partner in Govindia Hemphill since 1999.


Studio History
The studio is situated in a Georgian property dating back to the 1700's in the heart of London’s bustling and artistic East End, historically linked to textiles, it’s original occupants were the Huguenot silk weavers who fled from France.
Govindia Hemphill has built an impressive portfolio of work ranging from period restorations to contemporary projects such as the award winning Cowley Manor in Gloucestershire and the Cafe Royal Hotel in London. Their talents have been employed to enhance and draw out the character of very diverse spaces, both historical and contemporary; residential, hospitality & public spaces, in the UK and internationally.
